A LDR Story: It's the Little Things

Some days all you need is a little pick me up. And I think that in a LDR it's important to send your loved one something every now and then to remind them you're thinking of them. It could be anything from writing a letter to sending a selfie to dedicating a song to them. These little things add up and can really make someone's day. It feels good to feel love.

One thing I love to do is send mail to J. I send cards, letters, post cards... anything and everything. I create small art, every so often I put together a care box, or even ask my family if they have anything to send (even just a note!). One year, I sent J a piece of mail every month. Some of the mail was for specific things, while others were just random notes to say hi, or to send him cute stickers I liked. He loved getting the surprises, and I liked the messages he would send to tell me it had arrived. It feels good to share love.

J and I send each other gifs a lot. Whether it's a sign for hugs, something silly, or just completely random, it brightens our days. It's nice to see a message from a loved one saying they're thinking of you when one (or both) of you are having a busy day. We also try to send pictures of our day when we're busy. If I'm out for the day and can't message J much, I might take pictures to send him of what I'm up to, food I eat, or things I see to include him in my day. It feels good to see love.

Whenever I'm listening to music and I hear a song that I think J would like, or one that reminds me of us, or maybe one of his favourites, I link it to him. It doesn't matter if I've sent him the song before; I want to share that moment with him. I really like how music can convey so many emotions and thoughts and art. J and I have varying music tastes, with some overlap, and whenever he shares a song with me, I listen to it ASAP. It's important to take care with things your loved one shares. A favourite song can hold so much meaning to a person. It feels good to hear love.

My point with this post is to inspire the little things. Kind gestures of any size are meaningful and I feel it's good to recognize how doing nice things make you feel, and how it makes those around you feel. Take a Love Language Test with your partner. Share memes with each other. Send a simple "I miss you" text. The little things can really go a long way, especially when you aren't in the same place physically with your partner.

It feels good to love.
